I’m currently swamped with projects and midterms for my classes, so today I’ll leave you guys with this quickie blog post.
Are you watching Lifetime TV‘s new series, Project Accessory? I’m on the fence about it (although I do love accessory design!) simply because I’ve heard mixed reviews about it, and have given up on y formerly favorite show, Project Runway, after the move to this network and the meddling of Bunim/Murray with everything that made the show great. Word has it this permutation of the soon-to-be franchise is still trying to find its footing inamongst the inevitable comparisons and the producers’ fondness for manufactured drama. But here’s something neat and DIY-related! Project Runway alum Laura Bennett (Season 5) is coming out with a book called Handmade Chic: Fashionable Projects That Look High-End, Not Homespun (Jan. 2012), and is blogging for Project Accessory. Every week she’ll feature a DIY of the winning project, which is really cool! (Much better than the buy-the-winning-look possibilities that have cropped up from time to time throughout Project Runway’s run…since this democratizes fashion for everyone!).
Check out the first project and follow along with her blogging here:

Has anyone been watching Project Accessory? What do you guys think so far…must-see TV, or only good enough to read the recaps?

Hey!
I’ve been watching and recapping the episodes (this week’s http://www.dismountcreative.com/projectaccessory-recap-episode-two). I’m on the fence about the show, but how could I not watch?! I hope as the competition continues we’ll get to see more involved challenges and learn more about the process.

Thanks for the info, Alicia! Maybe I’ll check it an episode just to see what it’s like…I was so disappointed with the direction Project Runway’s gone in I was very pessimistic about what the same production team would do with another similar show…But the creativity’s the reason we watch, right?? I definitely want to see more of that on TV!!
Really like that belt, thanks.

Just watched a recap of the season with Laura accusing Jeffrey of cheating…….how pitiful. Ms Laura embodies the “C” word.
That wouldn’t be “classy,” would it? 😉
I saw that episode too, and though Laura brought up a valid point (that individuals competing against established designers already working in the industry with machines, staff, and infrastructure support, are at a HUGE disadvantage), she definitely made her accusations in a passive/aggressive, underhanded way. Have you watched all of the season? Jeffrey was pretty awful throughout with his whiny, vicious cut-downs of everyone else and his playing the angry victim. The editors were only able to drum up a little sympathy for him with that cheating accusation incident near the end; otherwise, he was pretty unlikeable for most of the episodes. Definitely check them out again if you have the time!
