from CraftyCrafty.tv: “I’m always impressed by DIY-ers who choose less obvious fabrics to make up their patterns (remember the shower curtain dress?) so I was instantly drawn to this delightful dress that Chic Steals made up from a Vogue pattern using Ikea’s Patricia fabric. Ikea’s a good place to find bold, clean and eyecatching fabrics, which work just fine in dressmaking, even when they’re intended for upholstery.

Sort of similar in layout to BleachBlack or The CobraSnake photography journal…a lovely and inspiring collection of images… The writer is a photographer with her own photography site coming soon.
Fellow Oregonian Amanda Grisham writes the above blog…she has great affordable picks and styling tips and did a very nice write-up of a couple of remakes I’ve done using men’s shirts entitled “D.I.Y. with Clothes From Your G.U.Y.” (Super-cute title BTW!) She also is studying Apparel Design and Management, and so her blog is chock-full of insider tips and info about trends and tradeshows. (Like candy for someone like me!)

Well, not yet anyway!
With social media being the new method of style-sharing and spreading fashion trends, StyleList and Bluefly have launched a national search for America’s Most Stylish Blogger.
They all have style, only one has authority.
8 finalists from across the United States have been chosen to compete. Each of the 8 will receive an item from Bluefly.com every week for 5 weeks. Each will create a look based around that item, photograph the look, and upload it to StyleList’s AMSB Gallery Widget.
Beginning Tuesday, October 27, viewers can vote on the person who styled their piece the best.
Winner is determined by overall cumulative vote after 5 weeks. Winner will receive a $1000 Bluefly.com shopping spree, a “Product Store” featuring product selections by winner on Bluefly.com for 6 months, and a weekly column on StyleList.com for 3 months. One person will also be drawn randomly from those who voted on the looks – to receive a $1000 shopping spree on Bluefly.com.
[I’m actually waaaaaay more excited about the “Product Store” on Bluefly and the blogging on StyleList than the spree…this would be a dream come true for me…and hopefully be a step closer to relaunching my clothing/jewelry line!!]
Voting is limited to U.S. residents 18 years of age and older.

It’s my very first blogging award – and in fact my first award in a very, very long time! – and I am so flattered and thrilled to receive it. (And if you haven’t heard of her blog – definitely go and check it and be inspired by all of her lovely projects and creations!)

7 things you don’t know about me:
1. I never went to fashion design school. I am a self-taught designer and sewer…and if I don’t know how to do something, I pretty much bang my head against it until I can do it.
2. I can’t solder and I can’t weld. Not yet, anyway.
3. We only speak Japanese at home. My son is 4 and barely speaks English.:_(
4. Whenever I am sick (which has been quite often this year) I watch all-day marathons of America’s Next Top Model. Only when I’m sick, mind you.
5. I am addicted to peanut butter – the crunchy type. I will eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon, pressing chocolate chips into my spoonful as I go.
6. I love to sleep! It’s my favorite activity – and I will sleep about 11.5 hours a day, if left to my own devices.
7. I really want to make my own shoes but can’t source the pigskin leather for the soles or inners locally. I need a leather knife too, come to think of it. The lasts I bought are just begging to be used!:-)
