America’s Most Stylish Blogger Competition: Challenge #5: The Tie-Dye Legging

Are tie-dye leggings a fashion risk? Not when they’re on-trend! (And if you’ll remember, I wore a similar piece in Week #1 of this competition and had the experts reluctant to endorse them then. But the fashion tides have turned!)

Pairing these Plan B Charcoal Tie-Dyed Stretch Leggings with rock-chic accessories and an XL men’s t-shirt turned into a dress, it’s the way to go for an evening out on the town or a fashionable soiree. Super-spiked shoes (with extra straps, buckles, studding, and texturizing added to a pair of platform stripper heels), a magazine clutch (a clutch with a magazine cover glued to it), rhinestone earring turned into hand jewelry, a pyramid ring (okay, I’ll admit I didn’t make this one), and a long dangling chain earring complete the look and keep it edgy and glam. Say what’s on your mind on your shirt using velcro letters – a total 80’s throwback – and be a little in-your-face and tongue-in-cheek all at the same time.

Styling Tip: Run out of things to wear in your own closet? Raid the BF’s! (That’s BoyFriend – not Best Friend – unless your bestie happens to be male!) Oversized tees work great as dresses – and are experiencing a huge fashion comeback right now. Belt at the waist if you want to inject a little femininity to the look.

America’s Most Stylish Blogger Competition: Challenge #4: The Plaid Shirt

Sometimes it’s fun to go vintage and over-the-top. A throwback to the grunge years of yore, the plaid shirt is back this year, and it’s better than ever, with frilly, girly detailing and a feminine fit. Top it off with a large leopard coat and oversize sunnies, and you’re mixing prints, becoming larger-than-life, and skating the line between fabulous and just plain “out-there.” Be big, bold, and unapologetic – pairing your large top with a streamlined bottom in the form of skinny dark-rinse denims and over-the-knee socks. Love it!

(oversize sunnies, vintage faux fur leopard coat, Priorities Red English Plaid “The Delia” Shirt, handmade chain necklaces, handmade chain-and-pearl mailbox number necklace, dark-rinse skinny jeans, ribbed over-the-knee socks, slouchy flat suede boots, oversized leather tassel weekender bag)

Styling Tip: People may criticize your outfit – hey, we all have opinions when we come to fashion! The most important point to styling something is that the end result makes you feel fabulous. If you don’t feel you’re rocking it – no matter how on-trend, classic, or socially-accepted it is – dump it! For instance, I feel incomplete unless I’m wearing something I’ve made myself. Though it may be a bit much to some eyes, I layered on gold chains with this outfit – included one with a pendant made from one of those bronze numbers you might have on your mailbox. Now it’s perfect!
