Day 10 of my 30 Days of Outfits Challenge: November 10.
Since it’s been cold lately I’ve wanted something on my head to keep me warm. Hence my scarf! It was exceedingly simple to make: just a piece of Lycra-blend swimsuit fabric from the sewing store, cut into a long rectangle 13″ wide by 63″ long. I’ve worn it as a regular here, and as a hood over my head when it was really cold one day. But today I tied it as a turban – you start at the back of your neck and pull both ends up to the front of your head, twist once, and bring the ends back down to the back. I tucked the ends in to hide them.
Dress is by Primp – a recent HauteLook purchase. I just love HauteLook – they always carry very contemporary, edgy lines, usually for much cheaper than Gilt. The dress had a deep V-neck – which I felt uncomfortable with, so I sewed it closed. The dress has an interesting gathered shape and an easy feel to it – I don’t think I have any dresses like it in my closet.
The belt is a DIY of Burberry Prorsum’s Harlech Studded Warrior Belt. My tutorial is here.
Nails are Rimmel 399 Black Satin covered by Wet n Wild Megalast in Prancer. I’ve been toying with buying Deborah Lippmann’s Ruby Red Slippers nail polish for awhile (just LOVE the red sequins and glitter), but it seemed an awful lot to pay for something I would normally wear layered over another color anyway. Sure enough, yesterday I spotted a similar version in the Wet n Wild end display at my local drugstore, and promptly snapped it up. It takes 2 coats to get a good glittery feel to it, but at least it wasn’t $18. And it looks dark and foreboding but glamorous layered over black. All’s well that ends well.:-)

That dress is so cute!
I love your belt, too
thanks for mentioning me 🙂
Love the turban, and the boots!
I have a question 🙂 What is, in your opinion, the best place (or what are the best placeS) to buy plain long-sleeved shirts such as the one you are wearing here? I'm tall and have long arms…and I'm also short on funds at the moment…so these types of shirts always seem hard to find!
What a great outfit! I am in love with this dress. Not only in the print amazing but the silhouette is too… Lovely! 🙂
I am not a nailpolish person whatsoever but your nails look SO GOOD! This is making me want to run out, buy this and paint my nails. Unheard of!
I just had to tell you, and I hope you don't think I'm a complete fool, but I never considered layering nail polish before I saw this post! Ever!! And I love glitter, but never found one that looked good alone. After seeing your gorgeous nails, I went and purchased a few lovely shades for me and my girls, as well as some beautiful sparkliness to top with. We are super excited to start coordinating our blinged out nails w/the holidays and seasons. Thanks for helping jump start some new traditions! 🙂
@Crystal MalekHi Crystal! I am so glad you found something useful on my blog…I've always loved layering my polishes..even color over color, to see what color I come up with…I think you and your girls' nails will be so festive and just perfect for the holidays! It sounds like a fun tradition and if I had a daughter I would definitely do that too!
Have fun & share photos if you feel so inclined…I'm always on the prowl for some new color combinations!
Best,
Carly
@KatieThanks Katie! The dress is pretty unusual, which is what drew me to it in the first place…I had so much fun with the nails…I'm dreaming up my next color combo!
Thnx for your comment!

@Connecticut Yankees In South CarolinaHi there! I emailed you my answer but I thought to share here in case other readers were wondering…I really love shirts where the sleeves are just a little bit longer so I feel your frustrations! Since I'm such a cheapskate, I usually buy my shirts from apparelmakers that cater to the Juniors market…like Forever21, since their sleeves are slightly longer than shirts designed for “women.” Sometimes Victoria's Secrets shirts and Alloy.com shirts are also a little longer in the sleeve than that average LS shirt elsewhere. Old Navy I've found is a little hit and miss, but I'm by no means an expert.
If you have really long arms, have your tried LongTallSally.com? They're a site that caters specifically to taller women with longer proportions. They're a little more pricey than Forever 21 but I think the length may be adequate for what you need. Some companies, like Gap, also offer “Tall” sizes in some items.
Hope that helps!

This is my favourite outfit so far (I'm going backwards to see them all)
