Welcome to another installment of
Chic for the Week, where I share a couple shopping picks that I can’t stop thinking about.
Actually, Chic for the Weekend might be more appropo. And it’s technically the last weekend before March arrives, so I’m on the lookout for some pale, Springy items to usher in the season.
Here are some items that have been on my shopping wishlist lately:
1. Besides a 401K, EVERY lady needs a fluffy tulle skirt in her life, one to twirl and play with and feel utterly feminine and childlike again. Behold this Amore Tulle Skirt, currently en route to moi, which will look amazing under a moto jacket or with a tanktop camisole a la the opening credits of Sex and the City.
2. A skirt this sexy requires a lovely and ladylike piece of jewelry to set it off, and this Rose and Pearl Choker Necklace hits both the edgy contemporary note of the open fixed choker necklace popularized by Celine and Karl Lagerfeld, and a vintagey vibe. L-O-V-E!
3. It may be stating the obvious, but tongue-in-cheek accessories are totally my thing. This All Dressed Up Clutch is oh-so-cute (and super-affordable, at under $15!). Great for tucking under the arm and organizing all your essentials.
4. To keep with the soft pastel feel, this Come On Downy Cardigan is the perfect pair for the fluffy tulle skirt, since it’s equally fluffy (and your significant other won’t be able to keep his dirtymanhands off of you! 😉
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

When PANTONE announced that the Color of the Year for 2015 was Marsala – this dark red, wine/burgundy/brown hybrid…the fashion/design/rest of the world was not quick to embrace. Unlike Radiant Orchid (2014) and Emerald (2013), this one left most people scratching their heads.
I have to admit this dark burgundy color has never been a favorite of mine [I feel it kinda had its heyday back in 1994 in the Grunge Era…yup, I went there]. That being said, it’s a sophisticated, quite underused color that can take on a different tone depending on what it’s paired with. And getting creative with those pairings is key…since the default is usually to go with a Fall palette when confronted with something like Marsala.
Here are a few items that could be paired with this Fashion Challenge…if you want to take it on.
Lucite Green: Aztec Drops, $32
// Aquamarine: Trapeze Coat in Brushed Wool, $161.08 // Classic Blue: Breezy Night Stroll Dress // Tangerine: Rebecca Minkoff Cory Pouch, $35 // Strawberry Ice: I Need a Heel-O Fuchsia Pointed Ankle Strap Heels, $34 // Custard: Yellow Pleated Miniskirt, $16.90 // Scuba Blue: Skyline Selfie Top, $24.99 // Glacier Gray: Gray Lapel Long Sleeve Faux Fur Short Coat, $32.79 // Marsala: Full Flower Crochet Skirt, $39.02
How do YOU feel about Marsala? Can you see working it into your wardrobe in anything besides makeup or accessories?
Come back tomorrow to see how I tried it in an outfit!

‘Tis the season to shop (and save!) and ModCloth has you covered with extensive Gift Guides for everyone in the fam. Which one appeals to my bargain-hunting, penny-pinching self the most? That would be their Gifts Under $20 Guide, and here are a couple of my favorite picks therein:
1. There’s a Map for That Necklace in Gold, $19.99. How unique is this beautiful necklace of the world?
2. I Could Pee on This and Other Poems by Cats, $12.99. For every cat-lover, there’s also a long-silent sufferer of feline whims. Delve into the mind of your furry companion with this cute book.
3. Grab a Bite Socks, $9.99. Kitschy, cute, and fun (love the little fins sticking out). Take the bite out of frostbite with these footwarmers.
4. Open Air Outing Circle Scarf in Black, $14.99 (25% off!). I’m in the market for a new neutral scarf, and this ribbed black one looks chic and understated enough for work.
5. All That Shimmers iPhone 5 Case, $14.99. Bring on the bling in this glitter-motif iPhone case (without leaving a train of DIY glitter behind you).
6. My Pet Octopus Hairclip, $9.99. You caught me: I have a secret thing for octopuses. (Of any genus, hence octopuses.) This hairclip would be perfect for my weird penchant, but not quite as high-maintenance as owning an actual octopus as a pet. Which some might consider cruel due to how shy and intelligent the octopus is.
7. Why You’re So Awesome Book, $11.99. Why you totally are! LOVE this fill-in-the-blank book to give to your favorite someone. Heartfelt – but not in an icky way.
8. No Conquest Ring in Silver, $12.99. I have this ring. I adore it – I get compliments every time I wear it! Very Game of Thrones meets Robert Lee Morris.
9. Galaxy You Later Night Light, $7.99. This night light is just gorgeous, and is kind of reminiscent of the Sparkle Star Galaxy Fabric I designed for Spoonflower. (Extra points for sewing up some coordinating pillows, covering a lampshade, or even making a comforter cover out of that fabric for a full-on Galaxy-themed room!)

Happy Shopping (and mega-saving)!
