DIY Stenciled Convertible Shopping Tote/Backpack for Martha Stewart Mother’s Day by Plaid

In March I was thrilled to find out I had been selected to participate in the PLAID and Martha Stewart Crafts Mother’s Day Campaign…and would be receiving a GIANT box of crafting supplies to make a DIY gift for Mother’s Day!  I shared an unboxing video of all the generous items sent to me here, and like a giddy kid in a candy store began brainstorming ideas to make something wonderful, beautiful, and special with all my loot.

Then, a week after I received all the supplies, my mother had a stroke and was hospitalized.

DIY Lace Maxi-Skirt…Made From A Curtain!

No, it’s not April Fools’…this skirt is really made from a lace curtain!!

I’m sure you’ve seen these curtains hanging in people’s houses…maybe you have them hanging in your own house.  (I know I did while living in Japan as it’s standard there to have lace curtains on the outside, and patterned curtains on the inside, of the curtain rails there.)

And if you check out your local Goodwill, you can find the most lovely lace curtain panels for a steal.

I found one huge panel for a mere $5.99.  That much beautiful fabric for that price is a bargain!!

So I set about using that lace fabric…and I found a ton of uses for it.  But FIRST…the DIY Lace Maxi-Skirt, a Spring 2012 staple.  And it’s sooooo easy!  Here’s how to make it: (more…)

DIY: Jil Sander Gathered Removable Peplum

A super-easy addition to any outfit, this sweet little gathered peplum is reminiscent of the Jil Sander S/S 2011 collection (the one with all the bright-colored gathered maxi-skirts evoking tulips and flowers).  You can wear it with the coordinating maxi-skirt, or alone over jeans, a pencil skirt, or an LBD.  It’s also super-easy to make!  Here’s how:
