Lookbook from Portland: REIF A/W ’13

REIF, a clothing and accessories brand out of Portland, OR, has become a local mainstay in the fashion landscape and one of the best examples of young design in the region. Known for fashion-forward stylings, fabrics, and prints (LOVE REIF’s collaboration with Pattern People!!), designer Lindsey Reif infuses her urban line of with elements of her small town upbringing in South Dakota.

REIF clothing and accessories blur the line between edgy innovation and classic sophistication. The brand’s unique designs fuse elements of the past with modern silhouettes and textiles, giving way to a line of timeless, quality attire. Since its debut in 2008, REIF’s versatile apparel and accessories have appeared in television, music videos, and editorial shoots. Authenticating the brand’s slogan “Die Zeit ist Reif” (German for “The Time Is Ripe)…REIF exhibits both originality and approachability in every garment.

All of the turbans from the above collection are available at REIF online and select styles are also available in select boutiques in Portland. Lookbook from Portland: Houseline

Houseline, by Portland Garment Factory, is manufactured on-site in Portland Oregon. The brainchild of Britt Howard and Rosemary Robinson, Portland Garment Factory was founded to fulfill that unique niche in the local economy: a full-service clothing manufacturing facility (of which Portland only has a bare few). (I actually interned for 3 months at Portland Garment Factory not long after I arrived in Portland!) After manufacturing other local lines for awhile, Robinson and Howard branched out to design and create their own brand Houseline in 2011. For the upcoming A/W 2013 season, the line has grown to include outerwear as well as their staple easy-to-wear loose dresses, jumpsuits, palazzo pants, and even accessories.

Lookbook from Portland: Holly Stalder

Faded velvet ribbons, Edwardian lace, the beaded applique of a 1920’s dress, aurora borealis rhinestone buttons. Holly’s one-of-a-kind designs begin with her favored raw materials: salvaged antique fabrics and trims. With a career that began by reconstructing vintage garments into wearable pieces, Stalder (along with partner Kate Towers) opened a boutique called Seaplane in 2000, that became a Portland mainstay until it closed in 2008. Since then she moved on to focus on her own eponymous line, opening a new boutique called Haunt with fellow Portland designers Laura Irwin and Rachael Donaldson. The shop is both a retail store and a studio, offering the three designers’ collections and curated picks from other brands.

Lookbook from Japan: m.soeur 2013 Collection

I couldn’t wait to share with all of you the latest lookbook images from the Japanese brand m.soeur. Designed by Kyoto-born Emi Ono, the line is ethereal and lovely, incorporating tea-dyed and hand-made silk flowers and lace into accessories, jewelry, and removable clothing embellishments. Inspired by trees, flowers, and natural elements, the designer also creates custom settings for earrings and rings in twisted brass and silver. (Love their signature floral earcuff! – above left.)
