DIY Healthy Natural Coconut Oil Stick Deodorant

0.diynaturaldeodorant_introI ran out of my old deodorant awhile ago, and was wondering what to do about it. I had been hearing a lot about “natural” deodorants, and wondered if they worked any better than store-bought.  With all-natural ingredients and no aluminum, they are undoubtedly better for you.  I found some links to various recipes here, changed some ingredients to create a stick-type product, and decided to try my hand at making my own DIY version.  Here’s how:

The 8 Must-Have Makeup Colors For Spring

spring2013beautymusthavesSpring is just around the corner!  I am so excited to leave Winter’s grip once and for all…and hope that the rainy weather here in Portland will soon give rise to beautiful bursts of flowers (especially in my garden: my black tulips are beginning to show!!)

Along with a change in season comes a change in makeup colors: hues become softer and more pastel…or brighter and more neon.  The Pantone Color Report for Spring 2013 includes citrus hues of nectarine, lemon, and spring green, along with violet, emerald, cobalt blue, and robin’s egg.

In addition to these colors, old-school 1980’s holographic silvers, as well as clear and neon plastic, are all over the accessory collections this season.  Here are the 8 must-have colors to play with in your makeup for the coming season…

1. Nail Foil on a Roll in Ice-Blue Crush, $1 per 5 ft. roll  /  2.  CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast in Intense Blue, $6.94  /  3. Astrogirl Prismatic Eyeshadow Quad, $35  /  4.  BareMinerals Blush in Vintage Peach, $19  /  5. Makeup For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in 42, $19

6. Sephora + Pantone Universe Lightspeed Glitter Dust in Emerald, $14 /  7.  Sultra Hair Extensions in Cyprus Lilac Solid, $9  /  8. LimeCrime Opaque Lipstick in My Beautiful Rocket, $15.99

What do you guys think?  Is color something you’re going to play with in your makeup this season?

Caress Passionate Spell Finer Fragrance Elixir Body Wash Review + $25 Gift Card Giveaway!

Passionate-Spell-collageI recently received a sample Caress® Passionate Spell® Fine Fragrance Elixir Body Wash, and it’s become my newest bath-time indulgence.

I’ve had really dry, itchy legs for the first time ever this Winter (maybe I’m allergic to my socks?? I’ve been wondering), and nothing has given me any relief.  By night-time in the bath I am scrabbling away at my ankles, trying to calm the itchiness, slathering on lotion and moisturizers to no avail once I’m out.  I’ve been using regular Dove bar soap in the bath, and haven’t had much of a problem with it…until now.

chicsteals_caressbodywash_pouringSo I was really surprised that within a couple days of switching over to Caress Body Wash instead of soap, the itchiness had gone down tremendously.  The wash is silky smooth and super-moisturizing, and even Lil Tot likes the fragrance of it.

It has a complex scent, of spicy orange rose and passionfruit: fruity, flowery, and Wintery all in one.  I’ve never smelled anything like it before – and it makes my whole bathroom smell like a warm Winter punch (with orange slices floating in it), and lush gardenias and rose blossoms.  Plus the scent lingers long after my bath, and I smell delicious for hours afterwards!chicsteals_caressbodywash

November Obsession: Revlon Moon Candy Nail Art

Even with Halloween over (and the subsequent letdown I always feel come the month of November), I still am hankering for something decorative and over-the-top, even in a small way.

Revlon’s Nail Polish Duos in their Moon Candy Collection (launched a few months ago, I know I’m late to the bandwagon) supply that perfect blend of decorative nail art with ease-of-use.  (I have some loose holographic flakies to add to nail art designs in my nail art kit…but having a vial of tinted sparkly chips attached to a perfectly-coordinating basecoat color is a such a time-saver.  I just love the blues of Orbit and Galactic – and the gold flakes in the Universe shade is so reminiscent of the beautiful falling Autimnal leaves.

The perfect, chic, and affordable way to do some easy nail art – and bling out your tips for the holidays!

They’ve sold out at my local Fred Meyer and Target, but you can still buy a few colors on Amazon.com (about $12.99 for a duo), or search at your local Walgreens, Target, or other beauty supply store.

Check Out Revlon’s Moon Candy Line on Amazon Here!

P.S.: You can also see a review + swatch photos on nails here.
