Welcome to another installment of
Chic for the Week, where I share a couple shopping picks that I can’t stop thinking about.
Yes, it’s finally Summer, and temperatures are rising. Trending right now are leafy prints reminiscent of Hawaiian-style shirts, verdant jungles, and tropical climes. Infuse your wardrobe with pieces that work just as well as separates as all together in this fun Summer outfit:
1. Basketball Jones Ivory Mesh Crop Top, $34
Super-cute and a necessity this Summer, this top looks great with jeans or a sweeping midi skirt, and will keep you cool as temperatures climb.
2. Steve Madden Bsashaa Stripe Clutch, $58
Though the name’s a little funny to say (Bsashaa??) this pretty striped clutch is no joke when it comes to mixing and matching with a variety of prints. It can’t clash. That’s why you should have it, folks – because it will go with everything in the utmost style.
3. Japanese Banana Leaf Print Skirt, $19.65
Love this leafy print! The design is really unique, too – making this an utterly unforgettable skirt at a really, really good price.
4. ASOS Penny Pointed High Heels
, $57
Sultry and gorgeous, these will make your legs look a mile long. Pair with jeans that boast a frayed, cut hem for utter gorgeousness.
Steamy Summer date-night anyone?? 😉

It’s a pool party over at ModCloth, and you’re invited! With so many bikinis and one pieces to pick from, you’re bound to find a standout look that suits your style. And while you’re at it, check out ModCloth’s exploration of so-called “ideal” beach bodies in their new Swim-fographic! It’s an intriguing look at how arbitrarily beauty standards have changed over time. Of course, ModCloth knows that every body is a beach body — the only requirements are a beach, your bod, and a swimsuit you can’t wait to flaunt!

I have a love/hate relationship with Target…well, really more like LOVE since I can’t go into one without filling up my shopping cart with amazing, affordable finds. Like these, for example.
1. Hamilton X-slat Desk / 2. Mirrored Pyramid Living Room Accent Table / 3. Vase Target Glass 8 in / 4. Nearly Natural Artificial Arrangement – Beauty / 5. Room Essentials Magazine File / 6. Deny Designs Decorative Three of the Possessed Crystal Crush Wooden Tray / 7. Steven Mirror in Silver / 8. Element Touch Lamp / 9. Threshold Ikat Dots Pillow / 10. Xhilaration Ruffled Decorative Pillow
And BTW, Target is running a GREAT promo from now until 4/4/15:
Spend $75 and save 15% on Home items – Plus get an extra 10% off when you use promo code MOVINGDAY at checkout!
I actually picked up the above gorgeous Hamilton X-Slat desk (to use as a vanity table in my bedroom!) for a sa-WEET $99 after all the discounts…and I’m pretty thrilled with the quality (and the styling possibilities!)
And don’t forget to use that Cartwheel App to save even more on already-reduced merchandise!

Welcome to another installment of
Chic for the Week, where I share a couple shopping picks that I can’t stop thinking about.
With Spring bringing forth blooms upon blooms, I’ve been wanting to #getoutstayout in all that the beautiful Pacific Northwest offers. Between the March hailstorms and pouring-rain-with-dazzling-sunshine-afternoons there have been moments of warm, windy pleasure just ripe for the hiking. But you gotta have a pair of fashionable hiking boots, some cool-looking jeans, and a top to strip off when you get too warm. Here’s what’s on my must-have list this week:
1. You’ll need something to brave the trails, and these Ahnu Sugarpine Hiking Boots
are a must. Bonus that they come in chic colors – and are lightweight and waterproof! #turquoisesolesforever
2. I’ve been wearing these Blank Denim NYC Rub a Dub Dub jeans CONSTANTLY since I got them – I used to just buy skinny jeans at Forever 21 but let me tell you, the quality is so markedly better with Blank Denim I’m never going back. These are super-soft, hug you, hold you in tight, but are not overly tight – and don’t get stretched out. Order your size for a comfy fit – order one size down for sprayed-on sexy.
3.Have I mentioned how awesome this turtleneck sweater is? Yes I have – here, where you can see the gray version in action. You can fit a little family of honey badgers underneath – and have room to spare. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: BEST. SWEATER. EVER.
4. ALWAYS gotta check ASOS for the backpacks since they have so many cool options. This Jack Wills Active Backpack will withstand weather changes and looks cool doing it. Just don’t stuff it too full or else it’ll take you over if you happen to be leaning down next to a cliff in order to tie your fashionable hiking boots… (Plus, if you’re a student, save 20% off with code UNIDAY until 4 AM EDT 3/27/15)
If you can, get out there and brave those trails! Time’s a-wasting…

Mar 24, 2015 | DIY, Fashion

Welcome to a new series of mine:
Buy or DIY, where I break down an on-trend piece into where you can
Buy It (if you want the original) or how to
DIY it (if you want to put your own original, affordable spin on it).
Loeffler Randall Gem Clutch
The DIY version: Thrift (or make!) a neutral suede-like zip envelope pouch – or try this version
for $18.95. Use Loctite Vinyl, Fabric and Plastic Repair Adhesive
to affix a variety of pastel mint rhinestones to the front, like these Tear-Shaped Rhinestones and/or these Marquise Rhinestones. If you can find or make a clutch in a thinner fabric, you could also sew these rhinestones on instead, using a thin beading needle like these
.
Which version do you prefer: BUY or DIY?

Spike and Rhinestone necklace: H&M (old, similar
here). Mossimo Zip-front Peplum Jacket:
Target. Classic Long-Sleeved (worn under):
Rag & Bone. Swirl Print Clasp Closure Clutch Wallet:
Target. Ponte pants:
Juicy Couture. Crisscross front wedges: H&M (old, similar
here or
here). Foil iPhone case: Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Yup, Target always has some great items. Whenever I go in there for something else, I find my hand inexplicably reaching out to other items on the shelf. I WANT…and have to curb my enthusiasm. Scale back a little. Empty my cart of all the Mossimo sparkly belts, neck party bling, and adorable Gilligan & O’Malley lingerie that has suddenly leapt into it. And so it goes.
But I couldn’t resist this dreamy pastel mint peplum jacket [called “Fading Blue” on the Target website, go figure] – so feminine and pretty. It has a fabulous, chic silhouette that reminds me of Sunday brunches and Jane Austen novels. Maybe that’s just me.
Unlined, though – and I may add a lining in the future to make it a little more “finished” and stand up to multiple wearings.
And this swirly painterly box clutch. I don’t actually NEED another clutch…but this cried out to me. And pairing it with a clashing jacket seemed the right thing to do.
Please excuse the silly posing – I am trying to get my camera’s remote shooting function working on my iPhone, which means I am mostly staring at an iPhone screen to make sure everything’s in focus before I hit the shutter button. It’s a LIFESAVER when taking one’s outfit shots by oneself…but ends up having me looking the wrong way most of the time. :-/
Pedi polish: Essie Lilacism.
Hope all of you are having a great start to the week!
I know I did – though I truly did not want to get out of a cozy, snuggly bed this morning. Had sooooo many reasons not to 🙂
