Interview with Hedi Slimane on Style.com
For an incredibly interesting interview with Hedi Slimane (his first in 3 years!) on the immediacy of the image, the rise of online media in this digital age, and what this bodes for creatives (as well as for traditional print media such as magazines), check out Dirk Standen for Style.com’s
It’s a long read but I found it very thought-provoking and inspiring; Mr. Slimane is amazingly well-spoken and thoughtful.
Some cool quotes:
“At the end of the day, a piece of glass and a can is all you need to do a photograph, prehistoric-style.”
“I finally believe the printed magazine will then become a collector’s item, and hopefully a reference to be kept preciously.”
“Fashion somehow, for me, is purely and happily irrational.”
“What became of Helmut Lang or Martin Margiela without them? The irrelevance of buying young brands, [that are] ten to 20 years [old], without their original designers is quite striking. I always assumed, after all, it was about authenticity. Buying those houses ends up a conceptual and costly gift with nothing left inside but a few recipes.”
