On a Video Shoot Tomorrow…

redscarletcameraWhich is why I’ve neglected to post here this week, since we’ve (and by we’ve I mean my company Uncommon Era and I) have been in intense pre-production up until now for a commercial video shoot for this really cool company on Sunday. Fingers crossed that the shoot will go smoothly and we’ll knock this project out of the park…and then I’ll be able to get back to more regular posting here once we’re wrapped. Can’t wait to share with you all once it’s live!

See you guys again soon!

DIY Agate Keepsake Box for Darby Smart

Hello friends! I am back from my trip to Arizona to see my Dad, and am so pleased to announce that my recent DIY project for Darby Smart has launched! Woohoo! I’m officially a Darby Smart Designer!

Inspired by all those chic lacquer boxes I’m seeing everywhere lately like on Joss & Main (and that just so happen to cost a fortune), I crafted this with some great supplies from Darby Smart. And the kit is now available for everyone to buy – only $29!ChicSteals_agateboxThis would be an amazing graduation gift for someone special, a wonderful birthday present, or a cute addition to a bookshelf or vanity.

DIY Agate Keepsake Box on Darby Smart

Check out their version! Which one do you like better – blue agate or purple??!

Thanks so much to Darby Smart for the collab!

P.S. Oh, and if you end up making this DIY, please share your version with hashtags #DARBYSMART and #MADEBYME on Twitter and Instagram!

Save the Planet by Recycling Your Clothes at H&M and DoSomething.org

Got any old clothes you’d like recycled? H&M is currently accepting donations of used clothing- and it’s for a great cause.

Actress Olivia Wilde, in her crime-fighting guise of Princess Layers, has teamed up with H&M and DoSomething.org to urge America’s youth to help save the planet by recycling their old clothes. From now through June 20, teens and college students are encouraged to comb their schools and communities for castoff garments—all brands and all conditions are welcome—to drop off in garment-recycling bins at any H&M store. H&M will bundle off these clothes to a recycling facility, where the fibers will be recovered for export or reprocessing.

“Clothing Comeback” participants who send a photo of themselves depositing their unwanted clothing to DoSomething.org will be entered to win a $10,000 scholarship, on top of receiving a 15 percent discount off their next H&M purchase.

More than 85 percent of readily recyclable textiles land up in landfills every year, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. That’s 1.1 million tons, or the equivalent of over 70 billion T-shirts.

Spread the word, and help keep clothing out of landfills. Donate to resale or charity shops (like Goodwill!), or for the unwearable, ripped, dirty, or completely un-resellable…bring them to an H&M for recycling and re-use. You can be a SuperHero too!

Chic Steals x Wander and Hunt DIY Kits Available Now!

CHICSTEALFORWANDERANDHUNT1I’ve just completed a super-fun collab with DIY kit shop Wander & Hunt – and designed 2 special DIY projects just for them.

CHICSTEALSFORWANDERANDHUNT3  diy-kit-wander-and-hunt-1-(3) The first, the DIY Radiant Rhinestone Belt, was actually inspired by a rhinestone belt I spied on Anthropologie.com this past Winter, and figured it would be a snap to re-create. For $29 you get the ribbon base, felt for attaching the rhinestones, glue, a skewer, and an absolutely HUGE amount of rhinestones to deck out your waist embellishment. Gorgeous over a plain shirtdress or even a light coat, this will be an accessory you reach for again and again to dress up your outfits.

Check out the DIY Radiant Rhinestone Kit Here

diy-kit-wander-and-hunt-1-(4)For the second project, the DIY Gem Pendant Necklace kit, I drew inspiration from a Dannijo bejeweled pendant I saw on Pinterest. Again, for just $29 you receive a bevy of gems, glue, a skewer, PVC plastic, endcaps, jump rings, and a rope for the necklace. The design is super-chic – and creates a fabulous statement!

Check out the DIY Gem Pendant Necklace Kit Here

You can also check out all the other DIY kits available at Wander & Hunt here (everything under $70!), as well as all the other supplies and materials that they offer. They have a ton of tutorials on the site as well, so you can get your DIY on without even buying a kit. Standard shipping is also free worldwide!diyanthrojeweledbelt_done2wander-and-hunt-projects-50

Thanks so much to the team at Wander & Hunt for making this happen! I had a blast designing these projects. 🙂

What do you guys think of these kits? Have you ever bought a DIY project kit – and was it worth it? Let me know in the comments!

Chic Steals February Content Round-Up

0.diyvalentinesgiftsHello everyone! Can you believe it’s March already??! (I always feel like that with February – that it just whooshes by.) Whooooooooosh! Did you hear that? That was last month!

I just wanted to re-share some of my favorite bits of content from last month:

To start off the month, I shared a round-up of 15 DIY Valentine’s Day Gifts for Everyone. Even though V-Day is long gone, many of these would still make wonderful DIY gifts to a special someone. That tissue-paper art in your living room? Sharpie mugs on your kitchen shelves? Pretty pillows in the bedroom? Certainly not limited to Valentine’s Day!! Plus you can also do many romantic things at home for your sweetie like this infographic shows (again, not limited to February 14!!).

diyclaymacaron_done3diymacaronstand_done2I did a number of DIY’s, this month finally sharing my secret fetish (DIY Japanese-style deko sweets, which I’ve been making for some time but haven’t yet shared on this blog). I made some Pastel Clay French Macarons, and for Valentine’s Day, a little Macaron Stack Memo Card holder.

diyneonstingrayclutch_done20.diyevileyering_introphotoz.diysweatshirtsleeveskirt_done2I also did a DIY Faux Stingray Box Clutch with Tulip Neon, an Evil Eye Ring for WeHeartThis, and a Skirt with Sleeves Tied in Front from a Sweatshirt. I’ve been wearing my sweatshirt skirt nonstop -it’s so cozy!

0.daisyprintinspo_introDaisy-print is the next new thing! Check out some fun Daisy-Print inspiration here.

I also shared a fun feature on Cut Out + Keep on how to DIY the Look: Tilda Swinton (all linked to doable tutorials). To think that such a unique high fashion look is totally DIY’able!!

littlewarrior_chicsteals_febspotifyplaylistMy friend Little Warrior shared her February Playlist all about love- you have to listen to it if you haven’t already – it’s soooooo good!!

Hawaiiphotodiary2014_1cI’ve done a lot of traveling this February with a week-long trip to Hawaii for my brother-in-law’s wedding, and now to Japan to take care of my mother who was hospitalized early this month.pinkoutfitwatchesintray

And the best thing ever: being able to share my promotional video collaboration for Modify Watches (been working on that 2 months!!) plus a look-by-look breakdown of all the fashion on-screen.

Can’t wait to see what this month brings! (Spring, budding flowers, new collaborative projects…and maybe some cool DIY’s??!)

Thanks so much for reading this past month, and stay tuned for more!
