Wow, I’m still coming off the high from the first Create Couture Challenge New York Design Shop sponsored back in August!
Well, NYDS has done it again and put together another challenge for DIY and crafty bloggers out there:
The 2nd Create Couture Contest officially begins! Today marks the first day of the nomination process. Nominate your favorite blogger or DIY enthusiast by any of the following:
1. sending a tweet to @nydesignshop
2. writing on their facebook wall
3. by leaving a comment on THIS blog post, [clicky-click cuz that’s a link!] OR
4. by e-mailing them at [email protected]
You have until Monday, September 20 so think hard about who you think will make the best DIY Halloween costume. You may nominate more than one person. 15 contestants will be chosen from the nominees. All nominees will be announced on the NYDS blog. Contestants will be notified by NYDS on Tuesday, September 21, and must decide if they want to participate by Friday, September 24. Rules and Regulations will be distributed via e-mail by Monday, September 27.
Know anyone crafty or uber-talented? Dying to see what your favorite DIY blogger could come up with? Nominate someone via the methods above – and cross your fingers to see if they’ll step up to the challenge!! (And it seems there’s nothing against nominating yourself, either;-)

There’s no place like New York, especially during Fashion Week! So far I’ve had the privelege of attending twice, both times in February. And both times I’ve received a huge amount of promotional products and items, more than I could ever possibly use or wear.
So this time around it’s September and since I’m unable to attend, I want to share the excitement of New York Fashion Week with everyone else who’s unable to be there too. Well, everyone – the Submission Period has now closed, and we’ve had a whopping number of fantastic entries.
156 entries, to be exact!!
That’s absolutely amazing, and the creativity is overwhelming.
In the coming days the judging panel will be reviewing all your submissions in accordance with the Official Rules, and announcing the winners come September 15!
Winners will be announced both on this blog, the UDC homepage, and on the CutOutandKeep.net website, as well as contacted personally through their COAK profiles.
So stay tuned for more announcements to come…and a Meet the Judges feature on the Ultimate DIY Competition homepage!

Besides promoting creativity, the DIY competition also encourages more educated and ethical consumerism, Cais said. After DIYers have tried designing or making their own clothing or accessories, they are less likely to buy and quickly discard clothing produced by underpaid workers, she said.
“You value items more when you’ve put your own time and skills into your creation,” Cais said. “You understand the time and immense human effort that has gone into even the simplest of garments.”
