Rock Candy Rings

A couple rings that I’ve made recently:

Quartz spikes set in sterling silver
Rose quartz chips in sterling silver
Amethyst cluster on pewter filigree

I’m thinking about adding these styles of rings to my Etsy shop…thoughts?

Though I can’t take them off…I just love all this chunky sparkle on my hands!

So I Designed a Shoe…

Just messing around on Zazzle.  Who didn’t love that gorgeous Miu Miu swallow-printed rhinestone-encrusted platform pump from their Spring 2010 show?

So I designed a similar black-on-baby-pink swallow print for a pair of sneakers on Zazzle.  (I’ve been wanting to make a pair of custom sneaks for awhile, just the multiple layouts for the numerous parts of the shoe were pretty daunting.  I gave up on matching the pattern across the seamlines, since it will be different for each size.  If you have any design inclinations I urge you to try out their Keds Custom Shoes design tool!  It’s really fun and the possibilities are limitless – you can customize the entire patten, as I did, or just choose color presets and the color of all the trims etc.)  The shoe I chose is the Keds Women’s Lace-Up – and I’ve loaded it into my virtual store there, so anyone can buy their own pair too!  I’ve set the pattern and allowed customization of the trims.

For my pair, I chose white trim, pink stitching, white laces, silver eyelets, white sole, and pink insole.  Oh so many choices!

I can’t WAIT until they arrive and I can rock them out…first off, I’m switching out the laces to sparkly silver, and maybe pairing with some cuffed light blue denim shorts and a breezy, blousey white top?  Or a black paperbag-waisted skirt and a chambray denim shirt?  (With painted DIY Miu Miu collar, of course!)

If you’d like your own pair, they are available in my Zazzle store:

(The only bummer is custom sneaks take about 4 weeks to make.  Totally worth the wait though – and they’ll arrive just as summer is upon us!)

Announcing: My Etsy Shop!

So I’ve posted a few items for sale in my newly-resurrected Etsy shop carlyjcais.  Just some jewelry I had on hand that I hadn’t got around to selling yet!

My cross rings are proving very popular – I’m running out of them almost as fast as I can make them!  Plus, I’ve made a couple cross necklaces too!

As you can see, I’m a bit bipolar when it comes to jewelry design, because I love both edgy and feminine things.  So my store’s a bit all over the place!  Anyway, please take a look if you’d like…

Thanks for looking!

ROBERT VERDI LIKED MY BAG!!

So, chickadees, if you didn’t know already – yours truly of Chic Steals (Carly J. Cais)is a designer who had a line that she had to close down after two seasons because she ran out of $ and didn’t have enough time to keep it going. So, to ease back into things slowly, put out feelers, make contacts, and get consumer feedback, she made some samples of some new stuff to take to New York Fashion Week while she was covering it with FashionTribes.com. And she has shown the bag she made to every single person she possibly could while in the tents, walking the streets, etc. etc. (She also made jewelry too, but does not show that around as much since last time she took it out to show a boutique owner she dropped one of the rings on the floor and it broke.

This one in fact (shown pre-breakage):

Yes, it’s an oval mirror set in a blackish lumpy bezel; yes, you are seeing it correctly.) And she was walking down 6th ave wearing one of her belts and the decorative buttons on it were falling off, leaving a trail down the avenue. Not going to make that mistake again.
So she’s flashed her bag around to everybody and their dog and tonight after being turned away from the William Rast show (it was a friggin ZOO) she saw THE Robert Verdi standing around talking to some socialite-looking people. I horned right in and said hi and asked what he thought of my bag – he was really interested (like not just polite) and was touching it and the socialites were fondling and oohing. (Sorry for the switch; the 3rd-person subject is getting annoying.) I was on cloud nine. But only for the 3 minutes that we were talking – then he was rushed off. How fabulous!!!

Check out the Twitter from Above the Fray Mag!

Tiny, tiny pic – I know – but snapped by Kelsey Kreiling from Above the Fray Magazine, who I happened to meet at Portland Fashion Week in October last year. She happened to be standing right in front of me to check in for the Tracy Reese show – and I showed her the bag I sewed my hands bloody for making for the 6 weeks leading up to FW – and she photo’d it and Twittered about it right then and there! So thrilled! (And so excited to check out the magazine’s website – emerging independent designers ….online magazine format…video…sassy updates…hello, what could be more fabulous??)
