Box of DIY Goodies from the Create Couture Challenge!

The other day, I received my prize for the Create Couture Challenge.

A huge box came to the door, and when I opened it up, at first I was confused, trying to remember when I’d ordered anything Alice + Olivia from Payless.

But when I opened the shoebox I was just stunned!

It was packed to the brim with DIY materials, accessories, and fabulous items!

An Alternative Apparel dress, 2 belts, 2 chiffon rose trims, 2 huge metallic flowers, a gold chain-link necklace, a thin flower headband, a large wooden belt buckle, 2 kinds of sweater trim, iron-on black metal mesh trim, black chain, iron-on anchor appliques, iron-on black rhinestone trim, a beautiful embellished bib necklace, and a lace-wrapped bead necklace!  I am so excited and thrilled with all this…as you can probably guess, I’m going to do a DIY extravaganza with all this coming up soon!

Thank you so much, New York Design Shop, for your generosity!  I am thrilled beyond words:-)

I’ve Been Feaured in Style Sample Magazine!

Issue #9 is now out and as a result of winning the Create Couture Challenge, I’ve had a feature interview with Catherine of Silhouette Girl!

Catherine was super-nice and I’m so glad to have found her blog, too – her style is mishmashed vintage with sweet touches, and she has such a covetable variety of cute dresses!

Thank you to Catherine and Style Sample for the feature!  I’m so flattered and excited to be in this awesome magazine!  Now off to order 50 hard copies so I can send them to every single person I know…;-)

Read Issue #9 of Style Sample Magazine Here
(and check out pg. 13 which has me on it:-)

DIY Fringed Gladiator Sandals: Create Couture Challenge

Yes, another project I submitted for Style Sample Magazine and New York Design Shop’s Create Couture Challenge back in early August.  I’ll get all of these posted if it kills me!!!

You Need:

*Mocha Suedette Fringe
*Mini Gold Pyramid Studs
*Large Gold Pyramid Studs

Additional Tools/Materials:

*faux suede or leather strappy sandals (American Eagle Tomahawk Beaded Sandals from Payless)
*pliers
*leather glue
*awl (optional)
*moleskin (optional)

[prep: remove any embellishments from shoes first]
How to:

1. Push studs into the straps of the shoes, using pliers to bend the prongs over on the underside.  If you have trouble pushing the studs through the shoe material, an awl can be helpful to punch holes first.  You can also use small pieces of moleskin on the inside of the shoes if any prongs scratch your feet when you are wearing them.

2. Measure length of fringe needed by wrapping it around top of sandals.  Cut.

3. Apply a thin strip of leather glue to the tops of the sandals, and press the fringe into it.  Allow to dry.

And that’s it!

Gladiatrix, boho, SoCal…however you say it, these sandals are FAB!

Monica’s Fringe Necklace from the Create Couture Challenge

Monica from Grinding Metal Gears was chosen as the winner from among the many Create Couture Challenge commenters.  She wrote that she liked my double-fringe necklace tutorial – so I sent her the finished product!

She shared her photo wearing the necklace on her blog (where she has a number of her DIY creations, recipes, and yummy-looking food photos!).  I am so glad that she likes the necklace – it compliments her so well – and she looks so lovely in it!

Congrats Monica and I hope you enjoy it!:-)

DIY Leaf Chain Earrings: Create Couture Challenge

Since I’ve been attempting to write the tutorial for my Men’s Shirt to Romper project for the last 2 hours and I’m now going cross-eyed with no end in sight, I think I’ll instead share yet another project I submitted for Style Sample Magazine and New York Design Shop’s Create Couture Challenge.

Materials:

*White Rose Pin (leaves only)
*Cream Rose Pin (leaves only)

Additional Tools/Materials:
4.materials2
*chain earrings (basically just some french hooks and some lightweight chain)
*pliers
*2 jump rings
*scissors
*awl

How to:

1. Remove leaf sections from undersides of both rose pins.
4.step2
Separate leaves and trim tops.

2. Stack 4 leaves atop one another and poke a hole in their tops using the awl.  (You can also use small sharp scissors or a pin.)
4.step4
3. Thread the bundle of leaves onto a jump ring.
4.step5
4. Add jump ring to earring.  Repeat Steps 2-4 for the remaining leaves and other earring.
4.done1
Pretty easy, huh?

Fun, dangly, and lightweight – these are perfect for summer!
