Emmy Rossum always looks adorbs when out and about, and the outfit above is no different. Sure, it may be intended for warmer weather – but throw on a chic coat, a warm pair of tights, a cozy scarf, and you’re ready to face the chillier days ahead. Let’s break down her main outfit, though – shall we? I think this is pretty easy to DIY! Here’s how:
- For her studded T-shirt: Choose a plain cotton tee with a bit of weight to it like this one. Attach some 1/2″ black dome studs like these in a 4×4 square on the front of the T-shirt. Done in 10 minutes.
- For her elastic belt: Oh so easy! 2.5″ wide black elastic, fastened with 2 snaps you set at the back. (This tool
will help you set those snaps perfectly – don’t leave your sewing room without it!) - For her printed pocket skirt: That shoe-print fabric is a little hard to find. You can design your own at Spoonflower.com, or try this fabric (black-and-white pumps) or this fabric (white elephants on navy). A good skirt would be BurdaStyle 10/2014 #106-A and fabric from here. (You could also skip that and buy this colorful ModCloth version.)
- For her yellow pumps: You could paint over a pair of leather heels you already have with MY FAVORITE LEATHER PAINT OF ALL TIME
…or you could just invest in a pretty yellow pair. For under $99 I like these and these, personally, or these for a slingback version.
Add some gold leaf-shaped clip-on earrings (these are a great find!…or SUPER-budget-friendly ones under $5 here), pull your hair back in a luscious pony, and you’re ready to go, Emmy-style.
How would YOU add oomph to this sweet little ensemble?

Hey Carly,
Such a great post, love the outfit and how you DIY-ed it 🙂 Blue + yellow is one of my favourite colour combinations.
How I would add oomph to this sweet little ensemble… mmm.. I think I would add a little round brim hat in black. Or maybe a black beret to ad a French touch! What do you think?
