Welcome to the first installment of DIY That Style! I actually used to do a version of this as “Steal That Style” …this is basically the same thing, just renamed. And made a little cooler, with more of a focus on DIY.
For the first breakdown, I’m going to take a look at Diane Kruger‘s recent chic nautical Spring shopping ensemble – which can be easily re-created at home. Love all that navy!
- If you’re sewing from scratch, use BurdaStyle Long Blazer 08/2013 #123 and a navy blue cotton or linen fabric with white polka dots. This Premier Prints Polka Dot fabric is a great choice.
- If you’re not sewing from scratch, simply use a navy bazer (thrifted for extra pinched pennies!) and some white fabric paint. Here is a great tutorial for doing that.
- A simple straw fedora can easily have its band changed for a totally different look. For changing the ribbon on your fedora, this is a wonderful tutorial to follow. Use a striped navy ribbon
for full nautical impact.
- Add a pair of boyfriend jeans in a light rinse (so as not to compete with all that navy), cuffed, a neutral tank, a nice white satchel (LOVE this $32.99 version!), a pair of aviator sunglasses, and a pair of neutral flats to complete the look.
For this dotty statement blazer, I’d personally go with a pair of red pants and totally red-white-and-blue it up!
What would YOU rock this polka dot blazer with?
