Today is a neighbor’s New Year’s Eve party with a vintage theme, and I opted for a well-worn romper with my DIY Bra Strap headband and DIY Feather Capelet to cover up.
There’s something a little offbeat about wearing pants to an evening party where everyone else will (likely) be in dresses, especially something as casual as a romper. Plus, this romper is soft jersey – so really a Summer romper – but the event is inside so no worries there.
However, since it is January I needed to cover up a bit – and dusted off my old DIY Feather Capelet (now over 3 years old!) for my poor exposed shoulders.
Lil Tot took one look at me and said “MOM! You look like a…a…TURKEY!!” and fell over giggling. Which was honestly not my intention there. Since I made this piece from some feathered trim carried by New York Design Shop at the time, they have since closed…but you can (maybe) find something similar at your local Jo-Ann Fabrics or online here ($14) or here ($6.95). With just the addition of some closure ribbons, you too can impersonate poultry in the minds of little children!!
Though technically it’s not New Year’s Eve yet, today is the neighbor’s party so we celebrate today.
Given the theme I went all out with false eyelashes (the falsies always make me want to scratch at my eyelids uncontrollably), a knotted chignon (following this tutorial for the most part but curling the ends of my hair first), and everything else blingy and gold.
These studded sparkly shoes by STEVEN (sister line of STEVE MADDEN) I was hesitant to purchase at first – but I had an expiring credit to Shopbop that had to be used and these shoes were on sale and just happened to be exactly the right size. I’m so glad I took the chance and snapped them up – because they are so delicate and feminine, wearing them makes me feel like a million dollars. Pedi is China Glaze Neon Pink Voltage.
Just loving this V to Success double arrow knuckle ring I recently got from Modcloth (left index finger) – just the perfect size and weight to rest at the second knuckle. I can’t seem to take it off lately.
Well – I’m off to the fete! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend – and a Happy New Year!

Oooh, cute! I totally want to rock a jumper but have been intimidated. Love the capelet, too!

Thank you, Suzannah! I’ve found that I feel most comfortable in rompers with full-length pants attached…though going to the bathroom always presents a hitch… 😉
