I wrote yesterday that I spent most of Labor Day helicoptering over my son to get his Summer homework done, so there was no fun family barbecue or get-together for us. Technically, this is what I’m wearing today: on the last day of Summer vacation for Lil Tot (he is back to school Wednesday). And yes, this is what I would have worn on Labor Day had there been something other than homework on the schedule.
I had been wanting a breezy white dress for awhile – something that ticked off all the boxes: a dress that had a little more fabric than just sleeveless, something that was structured, something that actually fit me, and something with a slightly longer hemline than your average mini. Something prim and with no extra details, so I could dress it up with the accessories how I wanted.
This Paul & Joe Sister dress I found at the Gilt.com sale a couple weeks ago was perfect; a little more grown-up than your average white dress, and yet still fun and Summery. (It will still be fairly warm for awhile here in Portland, so I’ll still get some use out of it…at least until October.)
I added gold jewelry accents and neutral sandals, and my newest DIY Tropical Palm-Print Structured Zippered Clutch.
I love zippered clutches – and this one has a little more structure to it than the average clutch, which is awesome! It will stand up on a table, and has that flat bottom so the items inside don’t get crushed.
I will be sharing the tutorial super-soon, promise!
Now I’m off to take Lil Tot out for a sushi treat for working so hard on all his homework (with just the minimum of tantrums and crying).
Hope all of you had a much more interesting Labor Day than I did!

Love the simplicity of the dress and how the print on the clutch just pops against it!
Thanks, Hayley 🙂 I usually don’t go for super-simple dresses, but I wanted to play with accessories, hence the printed clutch!
YES! That bag! I am in love with it. You look awesome!
Thank you, Lindsay! You are so sweet 🙂
