I decided to mix sporty with edgy and double up on my DIY’s for this outfit.
Somehow the dreary Winter weather here in Portland calls for Crayola colors…and some creativity!
Take these pants for example.
I’ve been drooling over those J. Crew kelly green silk colorblock pants ever since their Summer Catalog.
But they were $200. And sold out super-quickly. So I went on the hunt on Ebay for some silk pants to DIY.
And you know what? Kelly green silk pants are super-hard to come by. So I found a pair of poly/rayon pants on Ebay that would drape like silk (and incidentally are, I believe, scrubs!! There are still lots left on Ebay if you just search “drawstring pants”). Upon receiving them, I cut out the lining completely so they’d drape better, and then affixed 2″ wide black satin ribbon down each side using Aleene’s hem tape.
I was surprised at how easy it was and how well the hem tape holds on rayon and satin. No need to whip out the iron, let alone sew! What a great timesaver. (And I incidentally got the idea here, though if you get sticky hem tape, you don’t even need to fuse with an iron.)
Also showing off my newest DIY: a spike beaded choker necklace!
This was actually a long time in the making. I can’t wait to share it with you guys!
Sporty striped tuxedo pants demand a sporty puffer jacket, I felt. 😉
Hope everyone’s had a great week!
Look for the tutorial for the DIY Spike Beaded Choker Necklace…coming tomorrow!

I loved the same pants but couldn’t bring myself to buy them. Thanks for an alternative
