A wild neon skirt like this calls for simplicity in the details!I wore this to Lil Tot’s graduation from Junior Kindergarten on Friday.  It was a bittersweet day, as he will bidding goodbye to this school soon (which he’s attended for 2-and-a-half years).  He’s been going to this English-language school for 2 to 3 days a week since 2008, and starting this September, will be attending Japanese immersion school 5 days a week.  It was a tough decision, considering his English still is not on par with his peers, but he’s developed so much socially and emotionally from the care and attention he’s received at the Japanese school, it made more sense to have him attend there.  Next year I may have to homeschool him for his English skills, since they don’t teach any English AT ALL until the 1st grade. In any case, he’ll be going to this current school another week or so and maybe a week or two for Summer Camp, but this day marked the End of an Era.  He’s gotten so big and independent, and his teachers say he no longer cries when he hits a communication difficulty and now approaches the other children and plays with all of them, finally social and secure in this little world.I made the skirt in about an hour and a half in the morning before going to the ceremony.  (I figured out the pattern, too, and can’t wait to share!)  I was going to attach the peplum, then at the last minute decided I wanted to make it removable, which presented a whole new challenge of logistics.  I think I figured it out, but not in enough time to finish the piece before the ceremony.

(I made a side-slit to the skirt too!)

I decided to keep the rest simple and mimicking the runway look: pairing it with a fitted tee, flats (I would have worn sandals except I’m in despreate need of a pedi), minimal jewelry, and an upswept bun.  It was suddenly freezing today after a couple days of beautiful weather, so I was forced to wear my black trenchcoat over everything and ruin the summery-ness of the look.

I also did my nails Minx-style with these fabulous metallic wraps.  I’ll also be sharing the tutorial for using these very soon!

Hope everyone’s having a great weekend!
